The course wants to get students to think about central questions in political philosophy. What is the source of legitimacy of the state ? What are the proper limits of government intervention? What is the value of majority rule ? What is the basis of the right to property ?

The point of reference is the present constitution of Western states, with its emphasis on individual freedom, on democracy and on redistribution.
