Key words Mathematics 2
Objectives To teach the techniques of descriptive statistics, likely to be encountered in future statistical and economical contexts.
Prerequisites The use of the summation sign.
Topics Scales of measurement; 1-dimensional observed distributions: tabulation and graphical presentation, parameters of location, dispersion and shape, moments; 2-dimensional observed distributions: graphical presentation, marginal distribution, parameters, regression line, correlation coefficient, time series.
Teaching Methods Theory: 6 plenary classes of 2h each, in which the understanding of the concepts is of more importance than proofs and mathematical correctness.
Practice: 6 classes of 2h each, designed to help to master the techniques introduced in the theory classes and to apply them in a number of practical situations
