Objectives This course gives an overview of hardware and software concerning operating systems and networking
Prerequisites A general knowledge of information theory is expected. Programming knowledge is not necessary.
Topics Technical aspects concerning hardware
Some items are: network architecture (ethernet, token ring, lan, wan, cabling, fiberglass cabling, UTP, bridges and routers, OSI 7 layers model, cobra, etc.)
The structure of internet
Clients, servers and protocol. Lan technology. Evolutions in telecommunication. Client server architecture. Security (firewalls, redundancy)
Operating systems (unix, windows NT, recent evolutions)
