Key words
Objectives
The course provides an elimentary inside in the measuring and controlling
processes of automation. Practical insight is gained through case studies of
thermal, pneumatic, hydraulic en electrical systems. The link with the
procescomputertechnology is explained. The student learns by this means, the
difference between feedforward and feedback control, and negative and
positive feedback. The fundamentals of the the different forms of automatic
control are explained.
In a second part, the construction, operation and characteristics of
electrical machines is studied.
Prerequisites
first cycle
Topics
1. Preface.
The evolution and marketingviews of automation in society.
Examples of feedforward and feedback control in practice with the
blockschematic methode.
2. Fundamentals of Automatic control.
Basics. Examples of simple controlling systems in the industry; forms of
Automatic control, classification of controllers and systems, delay in
controlled systems, digital control with A/D and D/A converters.
3. Mathematical fundamentals.
Application of differential equations. Definition and basics of the Laplace
Transform
4. The modelling of systems.
The definition and the properties of the transferfunction and the use of
Blockdiagrams. Systemanalysis, modelling and study of the procesdynamics.
