Objectives

The purpose of this course is to give insight in the principles and the
materials used in the transportation of electrical energy in high tension
networks (>=36kV). The students have to study the organisation of a high
tension network and how we treat failures (short circuits, overtensions) in
a high tension network. The choice of materials and principles of protection
against those failures.
It is necessary to follow this course together with the course "Middle
Tension Technology".

Prerequisites

The knowledge of the basic course "Electricity" from the first year is
necessary.

Topics

The elements of a network: air lines, cables, insulators, behaviour in AC
and DC
Failures in high tension networks: short-circuits, overtensions
Protection and interruption of the current in high tension networks
The structure of a high tension station and a high tension network
