Prerequisites
Topics The course gives a detailed study of the production of textile floor covering. The different production principals, production processes and the structure of the used machines are treated. Tufting and weaving of carpets is most discussed, are the most thoroughly discussed, because these production processes are mainly used in Belgium. The part concerning tufting involves : a discussion of the base materials, pattern forming with tufted carpets, a survey of the different carpetconstructions, dyeing before and after tufting and printing of carpets, finishing, applying a latex layer.
The different production processes for weaving a carpet are also studied.
The principle of a mechanical and electronic Jaquard machine is being studied.
In cooperation with the machine constructor Van de Wiele, it is examined how a Jacquard machine on a carpet loom works, how the weave structures are formed, which types of carpet looms are produced by them and how they work.
The part of the excercises emphasises the following:
- C.A.D. used in carpets (in cooperation with Van de Wiele)
