Social law
Objectives
A remedial student is deemed, in this course, to gain an insight into the provision of assistance and services in the chosen field of action. Whichever target group you work with, the odds are that you'll be needing a knowledge of social law.
The purpose of the course is twofold:
- to place the various welfare facilities in relation to one another
- to familiarize the would-be social worker with the organizational structure of these facilities so that working relationships can be forged between the client and the social and financial facilities that the client can draw upon.
At the same time, it has to be clear that the rules governing labour law and the right to social security extend to the employer-remedial educationalist himself.

The students have seen a theoretical introduction to law and are, as a consequence, already familiar with the basic concepts, the sources of law,...
Topics
The right to social security (capita selecta): handicaps and social security (family benefit, sickness and disability insurance, private health insurance, industrial accidents and occupational illnesses, allowances for handicapped people, and other social benefits/facilities from the Flemish Fund).
Labour law (capita selecta): the (handicapped) worker and the Emplyment Contracts Act, the Work Rules, and the Health and Safety Regulations.
Teaching Methods
A teaching method with an opportunity to put questions and tutored exercises during and after each chapter.
The theoretical information is supplemented with exercises so as to demonstrate the uses it can be put to.
Materials used
A teacher's course, complete with worksheets. The slides are enclosed therewith. Questions and answers are added under each chapter. The bibliography is appended to each teaching pack: this list should also be looked upon as recommended reading.
Study guidance
A mock examination is planned upon completion of the syllabus.
Assessment
The training review is done in writing in June; it covers the syllabus, in its entirety. The examination is an "open-book" type and is composed of multiple choice items, debatable questions and exercises.
