Considering the engineer training students should have ideas of the different available metallic and non-metallic materials. An overall picture is drawn of various materials (their properties and varied applications). Many examples and webpages illustrate the course.
Competenties: The student is able to choice the wright materials for specific applications. He knows the properties of and the relationships between materials. Het knows that the course is a part of bis batchelors studies.
Topics
Theoretical backgrounds of materials and testmethods are discussed as well for plastics as for metals. The course deals with clay bricks and other ceramics, binding agents, supplemental materials, timber, glass, materials derived of petroleum such as plastics and composites, adhesives, and isolation. A chapter on metals is also included.
