Key words
Enzymology and Molecular Biology

Objectives
Close examination of the actions and the properties of free and immobilized enzymes in view of their applications in enzymatic analysis and industrial processes.
The course "Molecular Biology" goes into the subject of DNA replication and gene control by the cell.
The seminary work learns the student the diverse aspects concerning his thesis.

Topics
Enzymology
The structure of several groups of biocatalysts is discussed (enzymes, ribozymes, abzymes and synzymes).
Beside the kinetics and the diverse forms of inhibition, the applications of free and immobilized enzymes in food analysis, medicine and industry are explained.
The kinetic parameters and the inhibition of the enzymatic reactions are determined in the practical courses.

Molecular Biology
Profound explanation of DNA replication, DNA repair, start and stop of RNA transcription and his regulation.

The seminary course involves a written synthesis of publications and a discussion of it in group. There is also a discussion of biotechnological innovations.

Prerequisites
Knowledge of the principles of biochemistry.
