Hygienic indicators

Objectives
Perfection of practical microbiology, aimed at environmental hygienic analyses and soil microbiology.
Strategic approach of microbiological inspections (soil, compost, waste, water, air) + food inspections.
Learning how to evaluate the hygienic quality of environmental samples, by tracing and/or enumerating hygienic indicators.
Introduction to the most prominent human pathogens, learning the appropriate techniques for qualitative analysis on pathogens, including identification and validation.
Soil microbiology; introduction to the most important soil microbiotics and the basis principles of a microbial-ecological soil management.

Topics
Qualitative and quantitative analysis on Coliforms en Enterococcus (drinking water, surface water), followed by identification (API 20E, API Strep).
Enumeration of Clostridium perfringens (water, soil, meat).
Enumeration of fungi (soil, compost, biofertilisers), isolation and identification techniques.
Qualitative and quantitative analysis on Staphylococcus aureus in fresh meat products, identification.
Detection of Salmonella and Shigella in water, compost, manure.
Soil microbiology : soil microbiota, N-cycle (nitrification, Rhizobium), soil respiration test.
Microbiological control of air en surfaces (materials).
Testing desinfectants, biocides.
Only theoretical : Campylobacter, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Vibrio cholerae and V. parahaemolyticus.
