Objectives
The students should realise that written and oral communication in foreign languages, i.e. French, English and German, are very important in business life nowadays. Therefore they should be able to:
- understand a text correctly;
- understand what is being said;
- put something into words correctly.
The reading, listening, speaking and writing skills are practised and tested by means of practical exercises.

Concretely this means that the students should be able to:
1. understand and use branch-oriented (specialised) vocabulary;
2. understand articles and / or texts about technical and scientific subjects,
3. apply grammatical rules;
4. express themselves in different business situations.

Topics
- Grammar: German: elementary grammar / French + English: occasional and systematic study of grammatical topics
- General and branch-related vocabulary.
- Speaking skill: e.g. improving pronunciation, business communication.
- Writing skill: spelling, sentence structure and translations.
- Reading skill: branch-oriented texts and / or articles.
- Listening skill: exercises with audio-visual aids.

Prerequisites
- German: not required.
- English: 2 hours a week during the last 2 years of secondary school.
- French: 2 hours a week during the last 2 years of secondary school.

Each student can always report problems to the teacher. There is a monitoring system too.

- Maximum points: 80.
- Written examination:
French: 1/3
English: 1/3
German: 1/3.
- A resit is possible.
