Key words Applied Chemistry
Objectives
The course is pointed to formation of attitudes (logic thinking, critical sense, methodical and logic problem solving) by means off information presenting methods (diversifying teaching by means of different didactical resources), intensive use of dialectical methods, co-operative method (teamwork), individual tasks.
Topics
General & Inorganic Chemistry:
matter; periodic system; formulas & nomenclature of binary, ternary and complex substances; reaction equations; atomic models; chemical bond; polar and apolar substances; solubility; chemical equilibrium; quantitative aspects (concentrations, moles, amount of matter), pH, redoxreactions.
Organic Chemistry:
formulas & nomenclature of hydrocarbons; typical organic functions; wood preserving substances; natural & synthetic polymers; synthetic adhesives.
Laboratory practice:
safety & risks; making reports; exercises; qualitative & quantitative tests; reactions; solubility; acids & bases; pH; titration & titrationcurve; instrumental techniques: i.e. pH-measurements; separation techniques: i.e. distillation & adsorption; investigations of natural & synthetic polymers; synthesis of artificial polymers; consultation of simple technical & scientific reports.
Prerequisites No specific foreknowledge is required.
High school degree or similar is a good bases.
