Give insight in the most important crop husbandry measures that must be taken for optimising yield and quality of crops for processing including crop administration.

The course discusses the practice of ceveral crops: sugar beets, potatoes, fibre- and protein crops, industrial chicory (inuline), ...

The course discusses also the practice of vegetable crops growing in open field (brassicaceous plants, asparagus, cauliflower, celery, leek and chicory (Belgian endive, root and crop sultivation). Following priority issues are identified:

  • Sowing techniques;
  • Fertilisation;
  • Disease and pest management;
  • Quality aspects of yield and breeding aspects;
  • Crop protection measures;
  • Actual results of applied research in crops for processing;
  • Crop administration: every student learns how to order all crop measures by means of a computer facing the demand of traceability.
