Key words Applied mechanics, Chain Saws, Professional trimmers/bush cutters, Mowing machines
Objectives Acquiring knowledge of the mechanics of machines, techniques, safety measures. These insights will serve the students in becoming better users who can use and maintain these machines in a correct and responsible manner.
Topics The course consists out of 3 important parts:
- the chain saw
- professional trimmers/bush cutters
- mowing machines
Besides these theoretical aspects of the course, there will be several visits to producers and distributors of all kinds of machines used for laying out gardens/public spaces, landscaping and nature management/conservation. The mechanics, maintenance, safe usage, etc. will be illustrated there.
A second part of the practical aspect of the course is "Welding Techniques".
Prerequisites Courses "Agro- & horticulture mechanics" & "Physics"
Final Objectives Knowledge
- the student knows how a 2 stroke engine works and has knowledge of the mechanics of chain saws, professional trimmers, bush cutters and mowing machines
- the student can do simple calculations, enlarging their ability to judge differences between different machines.
- The student is aware of the dangers linked to the use of the concerning machines and has knowledge of all precautions and safety measures that need to be applied.
- The student has an initial elementary knowledge of existing techniques for usage of the concerning machines.
Skills
- The student can use and maintain the machines in a responsible manner
Attitudes
- The student acquires or has the following attitudes:
-precision
-quality conscious
-environmentally conscious
-safety conscious
-responsible
-inquisitive
Materials used
- syllabus "Applied Mechanics"
- notes made by yourself during enterprise visits
- educative materials: all mechanics are illustrated on real machines.
Study costs Cost: 85.0 EUR Excursions: €25.0
Sessions: €60.0
Study guidance The students can ask question orally before, while or after the lessons.
Teaching Methods
- theory consists out of lectures
- practice consists out of 2 main parts: one part is enterprise visits, another part is techniques on the field
Assessment Theory will be examined through a written exam. The enterprise visits will be assessed with reports. Techniques are judges on the field
