Objectives
The course of Pig production want to give the student information about the management for an optimal performance, economic, ecological and an ethnologic pig production. This knowledge is based on a scientific approach. The student must have a clear view on the possibilities of the management but also on the limitations of the actual pig production involve the limitation of the knowledge and the complexity of the biological system.

Topics
In this course all the important characteristics of the profitability of the pig production are included, as there are the production of piglets, production of young sows and boars, the use of AI, selection, production of pig meat, healthiness and prevention of pig diseases.During the exercises we will visit different practical farms, where the students have the possibility to check the theory on the practice. Also study days and lectures are included in the exercises. A computer program and simulation models will illustrate the management.Not only the performance will be discussed but also the quality of the pig meat and the commercialisation is a part of this course.

Zootechnics year 3
