Key words Feedtechnology
Objectives The course gives the student a clear insight into the different technological processes and operations in the feed industry, theoretically as well as practically. Also the impact of these processes on the nutritional quality properties and safety of feeds are studied.
Feed production is used as a case study for implementation of GMP, HACCP and trace-ability system.
Topics The production units of the feed industry are discussed.
After the discussion of the raw materials, basic operations as dosing, weighting, milling and mixing have to be studied.
Other technological operations are pelleting, extruding and flaking.
Attention is given to trace-ability, hazardanalysis (HACCP), legislation, quality assurance.
The exercises give the possibilities to become familiar with the technological processes of the feed industry by using pilot plants.
Also visits to the feed industry are planned.
