Objectives
  • Acquiring knowledge about the most important edible and non-edible horticultural crops: scientific name, botanical features, specific physiology, culture and end products.
  • Gaining insight in different propagation techniques. In horticulture a maximum of controlling plant growth and development is wanted for an optimal production. Plant physiology of germination, vegetative propagation, growth, flower induction, flowering, fruit formation, ripening, seed development and senescing is applied to optimize the culture of horticultural plants.
  • In this context knowledge is gained of the technical tools used in horticulture: green house construction and technology, spraying and cooling techniques

Topics
  • Plant assortment: scientific name, botanical features, specific physiology, culture and end products of edible and non-edible plants
  • Propagation: generative and vegetative propagation techniques
  • Steering growth and development of plants
  • Greenhouse construction, greenhouse climate and its control, relation greenhouse-crop, units and normation, construction and organization, cooling techniques, spraying techniques
  • Growing factors and greenhouse climate: Water, artificial light, transport systems, CO2
