Key words Hydroteelt
Objectives
Learning how to cultivate plants without soil. Hydroponics is applied in fruit vegetables, but also in cut flower production and pot plants. Consequences for the environment and the plant are also discussed.
Topics
* Definitions, historic overview, importance, advantages and disadvantages of the applications
* Pure hydroponics, NFT-systems, substrate culture, aeroponics.
* Review of the different substrates, water quality, treatment and storage.
* Calculating the composition of the nutrient solution, use of pH and EC-meters, importance of ion ratios and concentration
* Technical equipment and schemes for the different systems (pumps, filters, tubes, trickle irrigation systems...)
* Automatisation, sensors
* Recirculation and sterilisation of nutrient solutions
