Objectives General introduction to the working of the financial markets, in particular from a regulatory point of view. The course aims at making the bridge between the regulatory aspects and the economic aspects of financial markets functioning.
Specific attention is given to the international characteristics of the markets as well as to the high pace of changes in regulation and market developments.
Topics Organisation of financial markets supervision.
Financial intermediaries (banks, investment firms, financial conglomerates, etc.).
Regulation of financial markets (primary and secondary markets, financial disclosure requirements, transparency legislation, market abuse and insider trading, take over bids, etc.).
Other (e.g. corporate governance, money laundering).
Group paper (max. 5 students).
Prerequisites No specific requirements. Students should be interested in the functioning of the financial markets.
