In every organisation the central point of an information system is a database : a set of related tables, controlled by sophisticated system software (DBMS); Every manager must understand the (main) datastructure of this database in order to retrieve information efficiently (by using a query like SQL), to make some analyse, to make some good prognoses.

The leading DBMS on the desktop is Access 2002: studying some sample applications, made in Accesss, is a good starting point.
