Objectives It is said that we are moving towards an information or knowledge society. Information has acquired a strategic importance as well as a resource for today’s
companies. How can the sum of knowledge available in an organization be managed? How is the value of particular knowledge items to be assessed? And how is
information technology to be deployed in order to achieve these aims?
Topics I. The question of the value of information and of information assembling devices (computers). The issue of the life-time of information. The need to structure business information.
II. Can a company measure the value of internal knowledge and expertise? How to manage the information flow in a company? How to create a framework to collect and distribute information in a business environment?
III. Knowledge discovery processes: decision trees, association rules, neural networks, genetic algorithms, OLAP tools, data warehouses and data mining.
IV. Knowledge systems: rule based systems, induction systems, expert systems, and other areas of artificial intelligence.
