Key words Environmental law and environmental policy
Objectives This course lays the foundation for the study of environmental law in the second and third years of the study of environmental administration.
Special attention is paid to environmental policy.
The course consists of two parts :
Part I : introduction to environmental law and policy
Part II : check on classified organizations
Topics This course gives an insight in:
the historical backgrounds of environmental law
the aims, the principles and instruments of environmental policy
the sources of environmental law and organization of and decision-making in environmental policy on the various policy levels (international, European, Belgian, Flemish).
There is also a short overview of European environmental law.

Final Objectives Knowledge:
Job-related (specific):- Knowledge of the structure of the machinery of government
- Knowledge of the procedures concerning environmental licences
- Having an understanding of the principles of environmental policy
- Having an understanding of the instruments of environmental policy
- Knowledge of the regulations concerning environmental policy planning

Teaching Methods Part I : oral lectures and also question-and-answer method

- First exam session: written exam 90 %, permanent assessment 10 %
- Second exam session: written exam 100%
