Objectives
This course aims at making students familiar with spreadsheets. Emphasis is put on an efficient use of the software in economic applications. Students have to work with spreadsheets independently and accurately in the professional practice of for example the insurance agent, the bank clerk, … .
They must be able to make instalment tables, to manage lists, to construct formulae in order to calculate financial ratios, ….
Students will need the skills acquired through this course in other courses later in the programme, such as financial analysis, etc.

Revision of basic techniques of a spreadsheet under Windows, such as

  • Basic functions ( for example sum, average, max, min, number)
Handling graphs

Prerequisites
Being able to make efficient use of the possibilities of the operating system most in demand and having basic keyboard skills. Elementary knowledge of the basic techniques of a spreadsheet is recommended. There will be a test to detect the level of the basic competencies and in the first weeks there will be individual tuiton.
If a student does not have elementary knowledge of the basic techniques of a spreadsheet he is recommended to take a bridging course 'Introduction to Excel'.
