Objectives
This course aims at giving an understanding of:
  • safety law
  • legal aspects of nature and landscape protection
  • maintenance of environmental law, liability for environmental damage


Topics
The first part of the course deals with:
  • the SEVESO-legislation and emergency planning
  • a brief overview of safety legislation for the employees
The second part of the course concerns general, area specific and species oriented nature conservation, monuments and landscapes, forest management and hunting.
The third part of the course deals with:
  • the public action against violation of the environmental law and judicial protection against this public action
  • the liability for and insurance of environmental damage, including the responsibility of the environmental co-ordinator

Oral lectures.
Many exercises and cases, analysis of verdicts on environmental matters.

Assessment
  • First exam session: permanent assessment (20%) and written examination (80%).
  • Second exam session: written exam 100%.
  • Examination Board Flemish Community: First en second exam session: written exam 100%.
