The social educator has a responsability towards society being the voice of those persons threatened to become deprived or being socially weaker. In order tot fulfill that function, basis insights in policy and management are essential.: the student has tot be able to use the information channels provided bij the government.
Topics
The course is divided into two major parts: Part 1:We start with a description of the jargon of care and carepolicy. It treats a survey of the organisation, underlying structures and evolutions in the community that are the base for the carepolicy. Actual options of the government are related to the different sectors in the landscape of carework in the Dutch part of Belgium, for instance poverty, child care, family care, care of the elderly, care for the homeless, care fore gypsies, immigrants and refugees, ... Part 2: youth policy: we start with an historical and pedagogical outline of youth work, followed by an exploration of the field of youth work. Using this information students explore local youth policy (what happens- in which organisations, -with what support). They study in depth one specific youth work action (what vision lies behind it, objectives, activitities, work forms, back-up, reach). In small groups they map differences and similarities in local youth policy/youth work.
