Key words
- Psychopathology, psychiatry, mental health care and clinical psychology

Objectives
- A bachelor in AP will gain a deep insight into the different clinical target groups in order that he might perform his two main duties – psychological diagnostics and psychological therapies – effectively.
- This course component gives a deeper insight into the pathology of human behaviour and a person’s psychological functions.
- This course component provides a general theoretical-clinical frame of reference within which the various clinical target groups are situated. In Year 3, this framework is broadened and deepened in the course component ‘Psychopathology and psychotherapeutic intervention techniques 2’. This course component ties in closely with every specialist subject in the clinical domain.

Topics
- The subject-matter is ordered thematically
- The following disorders among children, youths and adults are discussed in this course component:
1. Behavioural disorders (oppositional, recalcitrant and anti-social behavioural disorders, and ADHD = Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
2. Child abuse
3. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
4. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) and dissociative disorders
5. Psychotic states
6. Mood disorders
7. Anxiety disorders
8. Obsessive-compulsive (OC) phenomena and obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS)
9. Eating and dietary disorders
- Topics covered in each target group:
- Theory of the problem area: description of the clinical picture, diagnostic criteria, differential diagnosis, epidemiology, aetiology, pathogenesis, treatment regimens and a prognosis
- Specific symptoms (if any) and clinical presentation of the problem and the appropriate solution

Prerequisites
- The students are well-grounded in the rudiments of psychopharmacology (1AP: biological basis of human behaviour)
- The students have a thorough knowledge of the main streams in clinical psychology (1AP: Man and his course of life: psychology)

Final Objectives
- The students can convey, with a sense of completeness and in their own words, the clinical features of the tightly-profiled target groups.
- The students can define, with the requisite insight, the specialist scientific terminology that’s used
- The students can correctly diagnose the symptomatology of the tightly-profiled target groups in special education and/or clinical practice.
- The students can talk competently about the diagnostic criteria, differential diagnosis, epidemiology, aetiology, pathogenesis, treatment regimens and the prognosis of the tightly-profiled target groups.

Materials used
- The study notes bundle (from the courseware department) and self-searched specialist literature based on bibliographical references handed out during the tutorials/lectures.

- evaluation of course assignments in the context of supervised independent learning (5)
- continuous assessment based on the student’s active participation in the discussion groups (5)
