Key words Communication and interaction
Objectives The students get a view on several aspects of communication and interaction especially in the cliënt assistance - context in both groupwork as in counselling.
They practice and develop basic skills in these various areas.
Systemic approach:
Students:
1) define correctly the general system approach lexicon.
2) give a summary of the different schools in the general System approach.
3) recognize the concepts linked at the treated system models. (communication theory, explorations in human territoriality, contextual approach, brief therapy) by practising in cases and exercices.
4) give essential argumentation significance and the meaning of system approach in the profession of an social worker.
5) profile their engagement for their own learning in this course.
6) get, by developing the systemtheoretical ciew on interactions between human beings, to an adequate communication in several situations.
Counselling:
The students should be able to give proof of a deeper understanding of the skills and attitudes as a counsellor and acquire these capacities.
The students should develop a deeper understanding of their own skills and attitudes as counsellor.
They give proof of a deeper understanding in some aspects of communications.
Groupwork:
Students:
1) indicate the essential phases within the different group techniques
2) meet effeciently on an initial level coached by a trainer.
3) negociate efficiently on an initial level coached by a trainer.
4) realise a small social action in school.
5) make explicit their critical sense in their reflections on their own functioning within working in groups.
6) concretise spontaneously their sense for engagement concerning their own learning process by interactive participation based on feedback.
7) observe spontaneously and precisely.
Topics Systemic approach:
1) General systemtheory: concepts, properties, history, views.
2) An in-depth study with respect to content of several models:
- communication theory: develop the different axioms (theoritical and practical)
- territoriality: concepts, kinds of territories, territorial functions, agression weapens.
- Contextual approach: four dimensions, balance of give and take, loyalties, righteousness, basic attitudes and - concepts, genograms
- brief therapy: axioms, techniques, flowchart
3) applications, themes and cases
Counselling:
A study of basic conversational techniques.
A study of basic communication patterns.
Theoretical models about communication (Carkhuff, Cuverlier...)
Groupwork:
There was chosen for a few techniques that are frequently used within social work:
- meeting
- negociation
- decisionmaking / decision process
- conflictmanagement
- feedback
- campaign process
In addition techniques can be linked to the other courses on the content level as on the action level.
In other words the use of those techniques can help in other tasks and projects of other couses.
