Objectives An intermediate level of English has to be acquired at the end of term.
Students have to be able to function in a businesslike Englishspeaking environment without causing misunderstandings
Topics Module 1
a) grammar: selfstudy material on PC , completed with lectures on problematic topics
b) vocabulary: selfstudy of a number of chapters in "Working Words" (workbook)
Module 2
a) oral exercises starting from texts and newspaperarticles on demography, economy, infrastructures, administration, etc :
Training in paraphrasing, commenting, explaining, discussing,...
Groupwork and pairwork with plenary oral rapporting.
Commenting on and describing grafics and other visual information.
b) written exercises on vocabulary, grammar, spelling, idioms, ...
and pairwork in writing out personal comments, summaries,...
Prerequisites Students have to have a good pre-intermediate level of English, resulting from their secundary education classes.
This implies a good understanding of grammatical terminology and the ability to express their thoughts and opinions on non-specialized topics without creating misunderstanding.
Final Objectives Mastery of English at an intermediate level .
