Key words Applied Mechanics, Construction of buildings
Objectives Graphic Techniques CAD is a necessary education part for obtaining competentions concerning design of both mechanical and structural elements or constructions. Design always starts with concept whereby in first state a drawing or plan is required, only than strength evaluation, simulation and construction is following. This first step is essential for further run and communication within a project of mechanical or structural kind. For these reasons Graphic Techniques CAD has to be given in the first year bachelor/master.
As you can see, in different sectors there are designs and constructions all kinds : buildings, machines, networks, piping, .... for house and industry, public works, refineries, treatment plants. All these examples make the goal for a versatile technician or engineer.
Topics
- Different forms of perspectives : examples
- Principles of European and American projection method
- Spatial insight and reading drawings : exercises on paper, both 2D-and 3D-models
- Different forms of sections : plain, stepped and local sections, exercises
- Use and interpretation of technical standards and drawing rules : line sort, dimensioning, title corner and partlist
- In addition for computer drawing : set up drawing area, use of drawing commands, inscription of text and dimensioning and the generation of 2D-and 3D-models
Prerequisites The use of a PC and the operating system Windows
Final Objectives
- Generally scientific
- Independently deal with scale-drawing problems in different fields- - Gained insight into a 2 and 3-dimensional image of spatial elements - Accurate production of a drawing according to design rules
- Generally technical
- Be capable to interprete a technical construction (mechanical of structural) concerning used scale, standards and rules - Be in the possibility to apply designsoftware AUTOCAD 2004 for building up models and plans for each construction - Have control of a certain knowledge of materials concerning applications, right choices, indication of drawings and plans, finishing of surfaces....
- Profession specific
To obtain a projectminded involvement in professional life and in the world of construction
Materials used Concerning the new release of the software Autocad 2004, there's a new draft of the course book in construction. This course material includes theory as well as standards, drawing rules and appropriate exercises.
Study costs Aim price course material is about 10 €
Study guidance Individual coaching of each student Problems can be solved during course time Eventually the student always can make an appointment
Teaching Methods Graphic Techniques CAD is catalogued in labo Classical coached exercises with between times audio sessions Theory, exercises and supervised support during working on PC
Assessment
- Permanent evaluation is possible because of the individual follow up of different exercises. this part includes 40% of the toal evaluation
- Validation of a construction drawing on paper taking into account the use of right standards and representation method, correctness and precision. this part includes 20% of total evaluation
- Practical examination (organised during the last session) worked out on computer : this part includes 40% of total evaluation
However, if a student gains a score of 7 or less on 20 on one of the different courses (parts of training items), he proves that his skill for certain subcompetencies is insufficient. Consequently, one can turn from the arithmetical calculation of the final assignment of quotas of a training item and the new marks can be awarded on consensus. Of course the examiners can judge that the arithmetic regulations mentioned in the study index card can also be used for 7 or less.
For each deviation a detailed motivation ought to be drawn up. In that case one should point out that the skill for this subcompetency is proven to be insufficient, if the student didn’t pass the partim that is considered to be important for certain subcompetencies.
