Key words
Topography, land survey, propagation of errors, GPS, photogrammetry, teledetection

Objectives
1. Students must be able to determine the root mean square error on measured or calculated data regardless of the way it was obtained. Students are able of meeting accuracy demands by adjusting their methods or their choice of instruments.
2. Understanding of the fundamentals of teledetection and photogrammetry.
3. To acquire insight in satellite geodesy (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, Egnos,...), the fundamentals of GPS and recent developments in that area (RTK, FLEPOS,...).
4. Students gather field data through the use of total stations. They will learn to process, evaluate and visualise their measured data by using software developed for this purpose.

Topics
1. Solving problems concerning the propagation of errors, standard deviations, etc.
2. Fundamentals of teledetection and photogrammetry: definitions, platforms, aerial photography, photogrammetry, stereoscopy, films, scanners...
3. GPS: fundamentals, principles, measuring methods, recent developments (e.g. Flepos). The theory is illustrated through workshops and seminars.
4. Support for the surveying activities of the students is given in the context of this course.

Prerequisites
Having successfully completed TOPOGRAFIE 1.

Final Objectives
The following enumeration can only be achieved in combination with the other courses.
GENERAL SCIENTIFIC COMPETENCES [AWC2 and AWC3]:
The student is able to apply scientific and technical insights on specific land surveying problems and knows how to communicate in a clear and efficient way.
GENERAL TECHNICAL COMPETENCES [ATC2 and ATC3]:
The student knows how to analyse and find practical solutions for a given problem in his area of expertise.
GENERAL COMPETENCES [AC1 and AC5]:
New techniques with relevance to land surveying in the broadest sense are fluently evaluated and implemented, individually or in team.
SPECIFIC COMPETENCES [SC8]:
Both known and new surveying- or processing methods are used in a correct and efficient way.
