Objectives Understanding of material and energy balances.
Topics Introductory concepts and units of pressure, temperature, flow. Practical exercises on material balances without chemical reactions, with chemical reactions, with recycling/recovery (CHP?), with bypass in the chemical and biochemical industry.
Prerequisites General Certificate of Education (esp. 1st year subjects)Chemical reactions, basic physics laws.
Final Objectives Scientific skills (AWC 1,2)
To be capable of thinking and arguing critically, creatively and scientifically, of applying general scientific knowledge while resolving scientific problems.
Technical skills(ATC 1,2)
The student should be able to demonstrate logical connections between the various scientific disciplines in order to understand technical problems and processes. Additionally, he should be able to analyse and solve technical engineering problems.
Specific skils (SC 1)
The student should be able to control general chemical knowledge and skills.
Materials used Personal notes, a manual (to be consulted prior to or following the lecture).
Study costs None.
Study guidance By appointment, after the lecture, in the lab…
Teaching Methods Formal lectures, theoretical exercises
Assessment Guided exercises (permanent evaluation, scored exercises, tests)
Exercises :100 %
However, if a student gains a score of 7 or less on 20 on one of the different courses (parts of training items), he proves that his skill for certain subcompetencies is insufficient. Consequently, one can turn from the arithmetical calculation of the final assignment of quotas of a training item and the new marks can be awarded on consensus. Of course the examiners can judge that the arithmetic regulations mentioned in the study index card can also be used for 7 or less.
For each deviation a detailed motivation ought to be drawn up. In that case one should point out that the skill for this subcompetency is proven to be insufficient, if the student didn’t pass the partim that is considered to be important for certain subcompetencies.
