Key words Biology
Objectives To rub up and and to complete the basic knowledge and fundamental skills concerning biology, chemistry, health, ecology and environmental education, which are needed to implement the secondary school's subject-matters of tuition in an optimal way and to reach the curriculum and lesson objectives as well as the final required knowledge.
Topics Theory/practice: five-kingdom classification, plant morphology, cell morphology and physiology, cell divisions, plant and animal histologie, important physiological aspects in plants, animals and fungi, principals concerning ecology. Chemical subject-matters of tuition should support the biological ones. Specific pedagogics: the teaching model in biology, contents of the relevant biological curricula in the secundary schools, scientific method, important didactical principles , preparation of lessons, use of suitable media, evaluation, guidelines in teaching.
Prerequisites During the lessons the secondary school's subject-matters of tuition , skills and attitudes are rapidly repeated and are continuously implemented; therefore it is strongly recommended to know them well. A minimum knowledge of chemistry can also be regarded as an extra asset.

Study costs About 4 000 BEF or 100 EUR (expenses concerning field work included).
Study guidance The lector and/or the amanuensis are always available and willing to help students who have problems concerning theoretical aspects, practices and/or teaching.
Teaching Methods Theoretical treated aspects are supported or completed by guided and individual tasks, field work and group assignments. These methods do not only allow to implement subject-matters of tuition and skills, but are also closely related to teaching and educating. In this manner didactical principles are integrated in the biology course.
Assessment - examination: yes,
- period: January and June,
- mode: oral and/or permanent and/or written.
