Objectives
  • Students are to get acquainted with databases. They should be able to make and use a database using database software (part of an Office suite);
  • Students should know the main functions of database software and be able to increase their skill using the help function.
  • Students have to be able to execute a given number of assignments within a given time, efficiently and individually.
  • Students should be able to think practically and work meticulously.
  • This course is used as a link to Office software Word and Excel.


Topics
  • Basic terminology on database software;
  • Creating tables, relations;
  • Entering data, links to Word and Excel;
  • Designing queries: selection queries (incl. Parameter queries and join queries) and action queries;
  • Working with forms and reports;
  • Exercises.


Prerequisites
Acquaintance with Windows and basics of Office software.

Pc with software, floppy disk/zip disk, cdrw;
Students without their own PC may use the machines in the PC workroom between classes.

Study guidance
Possible coaching through Dokeos (electronic learning environment).

Teaching Methods
Students get to know the software through interactive classes, guided and individual exercises on the computer.
The lecturer will coach students on various exercises they have prepared themselves.

  • First exam session: 100% written exam executed on a PC

Students registered for the examinations only:
