Objectives Social workers have to deal in their job with different types of conversation. To obtain the goals of these conversations it is important to handle them in a strategic en methodical way.
Topics Study of the different types of professional conversation techniques and their methodological approach within social work: a theoretical and practical approach:
- intake
- strategies in consultation
- the communication and transmission of bad news and undiserable information / messages
- conflict managment and mediation
- coping with aggressive behavior and emotional arousal
- intercultural aspects of communication
- motivational interviewing
Prerequisites Courses are build upon the acquired know-how of communication skills during the first two years of the curriculum
Final Objectives Students:
- distinguish the different types of conversations and their methodological approaches within social work
-apply the skills for effective communication (in various situations) and give proof of a deeper understanding of some professional conversation techniques and their methological approach
- analyse their own communication style, skills and attitudes as a social worker
Materials used Syllabus (+2nd part syllabus "Conservation Techniques" 2nd year Social Work) and texts.
Study costs Syllabus and texts: ± 4 euro
Study guidance All exercises shall be discussed and corrected in class
Feedback shall be used as a support for the learning process.

Assessment Oral examination in the month of June.
