Key words Environmental Management, Quality Management
Objectives This course includes two main modules, a management of environmental processes module and a management and control of quality module.
Environmental Management
Industrial operations have an enormous impact on environmental quality. Companies feel an increasing need to deal with societal and environmental aspects as a result of pressure exerted by both market forces and regulatory authorities.
The first module deals with the management of environmental processes. It discusses pollution, health and safety items, environmental policy and legislation, environmental aspects of industrial production, waste, air and water treatment.
Quality Management
With growing global competition, Quality Management is becoming increasingly important to the leadership and management of all organizations. Increasingly, organisations in Europe accept that Total Quality Management is a way of managing activities to gain efficiency, effectiveness and competitive advantage. The implementation of Total Quality Management programmes can achieve significant benefits such as reduced costs and greater satisfaction (customers, employees, financial and other stakeholders and the community at large), all leading to better business results. The second module introduces the concepts of quality and quality systems, the organization of quality care in industrial companies, examines the steps to set up and implement a quality management system, possibly integrated with existing systems (environmental and safety programs).

Assessment Theory (written examination): 100%
A weighted average is used to compute the final score for a training item.
However, if a student gains a score of 7 or less on 20 on one of the different courses (parts of training items), he proves that his skill for certain subcompetences is insufficient. Consequently, one can turn from the arithmetical calculation of the final assignment of quotas of a training item and the new marks can be awarded on consensus.
