Objectives This course aims at making students familiar with spreadsheets.
Emphasis is put on an efficient use of the software in economic applications.
Students have to work with spreadsheets independently and accurately in the professional practice. They must be able to make debit notes and instalment tables, to manage lists, to construct formulae in order to calculate financial ratios, …
Students will need the skills acquired through this course in other courses later in the programme, such as financial analysis, budgeting, ...
Topics Revision of basic techniques of a spreadsheet under Windows, such as- Using formulae

Handling graphs- Making graphs
- Making up graphs (for instance data and marks series, legend, axis, text sections, …)
- Adjusting graphs (for instance adding or erasing data series, changing types of graphs, …)

Prerequisites
- Being able to make efficient use of the possibilities of the operating system most in demand and having basic keyboard skills (competencies at end of course Communication Skills.
- Elementary knowledge of the basic techniques of a spreadsheet is recommended. There will be a test to detect the level of the basic competencies. The first weeks will be differentiated and possibly delay with certain students can be eliminated.
- If a student does not have elementary knowledge of the basic techniques of a spreadsheet he is recommended to take a bridging course 'Introduction to Excel'.

Study guidance
- A test at the beginning of the course will determine the level of the basic competencies concerning spreadsheets, so that it is possible to work differentiated in the first weeks
- Monitoring and coaching students during guided self-study.
- Lecturers are available for questions through their email address.
Teaching Methods
- Through question-and-answer method, guided and individual exercises with the computer you understand the software.
- The lecturer will coach you during your guided self-study (various exercises and assignments that you prepared independently)
Assessment
- First exam session: 80 % exam with practical application on the computer, being able to carry out the given assignments correctly within the given time and 20 % continuous assessment.
- Second exam session: 100 % exam with practical application on the computer. Within the given time being able to carry out the given assignments correctly.
