Objectives
The students get a view on several aspects of communication and interaction especially in the cliënt assistance - context in both groupwork as in counselling.
They practice and develop basic skills in these various areas.



Topics
Systemic approach:
1) General systemtheory: concepts, properties, history, views.
2) An in-depth study with respect to content of several models:
        - communication theory
        - territoriality:.
        - Contextual approach
        - brief therapy
- narrative therapy
3) applications, themes and cases
Counseling:
A study of basic conversational techniques.
A study of basic communication patterns.
Theoretical models about communication (Carkhuff, Cuverlier...)
Groupwork:
There was chosen for a few techniques that are frequently used within social work:
- meeting
- negociation
- decisionmaking / decision process
- conflictmanagement
- feedback
In addition techniques can be linked to the other courses on the content level as on the action level.
In other words the use of those techniques can help in other tasks and projects of other couses.

Basic knowledge of: Psychology (1st year)


Final Objectives
Systemic approach
Students:
- define correctly the general system approach lexicon
- give a summary of the different schools in the general system approach
- recognize the concepts linked at the treated system models bij practising in cases and exercises
- give essential argumentation significance and the meaning of the systemic approach in the professiion of an social worker
- profile their engagement for their own learning in this course
- get,by developing the systemic view on interactions between human beings , to an adequate communication in several situations

Counseling
Students:
- give proof of a deeper understanding of the skills and attitudes as a counselor and acquire these capacities
- develop a deeper understanding of their own skills and attitudes as counselor
- give proof of a deeper understanding of some aspects of the communication
Groupwork
Students:
- indicate the essential phases within the different group techniques
- meet efficiently on an initial level coached by a trainer
- negociate efficiently on an initial level coached by a trainer
- make explicit their critical sense in their reflections on their own functioning within working in groups
- concretise spontaneously their sense for engagement concerning their own learning process by interactive participation based on feedback
- observe spontaneously and precisely
- practise their knowledge in exercises

Tasks and exercices will be discussed in class.
