Nutrients management

Objectives
To gain an insight into the plant nutrients and the different aspects of chemical analysis of soils, horticultural substrates, plants and irrigation water, in view of giving expert advices.

Topics
  • The first chapter deals with the most important cycles of nutrients (N, P, K ...)
  • The secund chapter deals with (physico)-chemical methods for the analysis of soils and horticultural substrates.
Special attention is given to the following aspects: methods of sampling, sample preparation, principles of the analytical methods, calculation and interpretation of the results.
These chapter treats also the different aspects of plant analysis. As well the mineral composition as some quality parameters are discussed.
Also in this chapter the different parameters affecting the quality of (irrigation) water are discussed; and the chemical methods for their assesment.

Prerequisites
Basic knowledge: soil science and plant physiologogy

Final Objectives
  • Providing insight in the function of the different growing factors, especially nutrients, influencing the growth of plants
  • Learning to understand and interpret analysisreports of soils, substrates, plants and fertilisers
  • The ability to analyse and process scientific information (literature, www.,...) about plant nutrients
