Doelstellingen
We are said to be moving to an information or knowledge society. Information and knowledge have acquired strategic importance also as a resource for today's companies. But how can we judge the value of particular knowledge used in the organization? How can knowledge be created from available data? How can knowledge be managed? And how is information technology to be deployed to enhance the use of knowledge?
Leerinhoud
We will first focus on knowledge management and the task of knowledge distribution in an organization. We will also work on knowledge creation with the use of data mining, and adaptation of current management into a more suitable management style to incorporate knowledge management.
- Knowledge Discovery in Data (KDD): introduction and overview
- Predictive data mining: classification and regression
- Descriptive data mining: clustering and association rule mining
- Practical session on KDD with Weka

- The student should be able to understand the basic theorems on knowledge management.
-The student should be able to understand the techniques of knowledge distribution and knowledge development in an organization.
- The main issues, techniques and applications of ‘knowledge discovery in data’ should be known.

Onderwijsvormen
Weekly sessions of two hours.
Assignments: students will be divided in small groups and have to write a paper on a topic related to the courses.
Evaluatievorm
50% of the grade will be determined on a written exam, and 50% of the grade will be determined by the group assignment.
Second exam period: a written exam.
