Objectives In the course human nutrition science the students gain knowledge on human nutrition.The students must be able to make the link between food intake and digestion, biochemical conversions, utilisation and malnutrition. Moreover the students have to get an insight on the nutritional value of the different nutrients and knowledge on the new recent developments in human nutrition.
Topics - The role of nutrition for the human body in the past, today and for the future
- Digestion and absorption of fats, carbohydrates and proteins
- Utilisation of fats, carbohydrates and proteins
- Deficiency problems
- Energy metabolism
- Role, absorption and deficiency symptoms of vitamins, mineral and trace elements
- New trends in human nutrition.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of organic chemistry and biochemistry
Final Objectives The student must be able within the framework of the physiological aspects of human nutrition, to apply basic knowledge of biology, chemistry and biochemistry. He is assumed to have critical look on the most recent tendencies within human nutrition.
