Objectives Acquiring knowledge of greenhouse crops, such as ornamentals (pot plants and cut flowers) as well as vegetables.
Topics In part one, a number of ornamentals such as azalea, roses, carnation, orchids, anthurium, alstroemeria, gerbera, chrysanthemum, bromeliads are studied in detail. Origin, relevant botanical features, genetic variation and diseases are discussed, as well as detailed cultural practices (propagation, flowering control, substrate, harvest…) and marketing.
The second parts handles strawberry and the most important vegetables cultured under glass: tomatoes, cucumber, paprika, lettuce, endive, asparagus, celery and radish. Botanical features; cultivars, culture schemes, nutrition and growth factors, diseases and pests, harvest, conservation an commercialisation are discussed.
