Objectives
The course discusses the practice of vegetable crops growing in open field (Brussels sprout, cauliflower, carrots, peas and beans, spinach and chicory).
Following priority issues are identified:

  • Give insight in the physiological and development processes which are at the basic of crop production
  • Give insight in the most important crop husbandry measures that must be taken for optimising yield and yield quality
  • Give insight in the crop protection measures


Topics
Growth and development, anatomy and morphology, yield pattern and modelling, sowing technique, fertilisation, disease and pest management, quality aspects of yield and breeding aspects of the most important legumes.

Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of plant science and genetics

Final Objectives
Students must be able to implementate crop husbandry aspects to maximilise the yield quantitative and qualitative.
