Objectives This study unit teaches students who wish to specialize in early music with the necessary theoretical and practical insights and skills. This unit is therefore taught from the start of the programme. The study unit is related to solo practice, history of music, small ensembles and research methodology .
Topics Acquisition and/or in depth expansion of theoretical and practical knowledge concerning performance praxis in relationship with the style periods and the regions concerned.
Through this approach, the student will be able to diversify the performance praxis of his own repertoire.
Prerequisites Pass an admission test.

The student is able to express his own artistic vision and musical intuition by means of a personal and artistically edifying instrumental musical interpretation.
• possesses the heuristic ability necessary to solve musical problems involved in a performance
• has a thorough knowledge of the historical performance practices enabling him/her to perform music in a faithful and integer way without renouncing his own personal musical style
• masters general and specific profession-oriented competences to prove his worth as an independent musician.
• has a knowledge of, and an insight in advanced disciplines necessary for personal artistic research in music.
Analytical insight and critical reflection attitude
The student is able to place and interpret his own musical performances and those of others in a broad historical and contemporary cultural and artistic context.
• can situate music in its historical, social and cultural context. Has an insight in the characteristics of the various style periods as far as musical aesthetics and music theory are concerned.
• Possesses a deepened knowledge of musical and cultural history and of historical and contemporary performance practices concerning his/her specialisation
