Objectives
Knowledge:
This course wants to make students familiar with databases. By means of a database program (part of an office-package) the student has to be able to produce and use a database professionally.
The student has to know all the most important possibilities of a database program and has to be able to expand his knowledge through documentation (help-function).
The student must be able to perform a given amount of assignments independently and efficiently within a limited length of time.
The student must be able to think in a problem-solving way and must be able to work accurately. This course is used as a link to the other office-packages Word and Excel.

Skills:
The student has to be able to handle the package professionally and efficiently and he also has to be capable of working in a problem-solving way. To accomplish this, the student has to practise the offered content (theory and exercises) independently, thoroughly and regularly. By doing this, the student will be able to execute a given number of assignments within a limited length of time.

Competencies:
The student must have a thorough command of the most important possibilities of a database program he must also be able to expand his knowledge through production documentation

Topics
  • Basic terminology concerning database programs
  • Produce tables, find relations· Introduce data (importing and exporting)
  • Designing queries: queries of selection and queries of action
  • Working with documents (including lists of choice) and reports (including group reports)


Prerequisites
Being able to use the current possibilities of system of control as efficiently as possible and having a keyboard skill (part of final objectives when having finished the course 'Communication Skills')
