Objectives To familiarize the student with the characteristics of software and websites, including web positioning and the specific requirements and problems involved with the localisation of websites and software.
Topics The study unit "Localisation" treats the following topics:
- first, the student is familiarized with web localisation tools, web localisation in various languages and web positioning.
- later, the student is introduced to various software, to software localisation and to pseudo-translation.
Prerequisites Bachelor in languages and ability to efficiently and diligently use the computer as a working instrument.
Final Objectives Knowledge of current tools for website localisation, web positioning, software localisation. Ability to translate and localise unpretentious websites.

Occasional handouts.
Study costs The cost of handouts is included in the lump price charged for course material.
Study guidance Students may solicit assistance or extra information during the lectures, during the teacher’s consultation hours or via e-mail.
Teaching Methods Practicals in the computer lab. The students exercise all necessary skills in class.
Assessment Permanent evaluation:
Assessment of seven assignments finished in class, involving localisation of a number of website pages or part of them with different tools and a pseudo-translation and localisation of a small software application. No assignments will be accepted after the start of the examen period.
Second session: written exam.
Details: The student will have to localise a part of a webpagina and/or to show how the different tools (seen in the lectures) work.
